last week at youth we talked about darkness and light. the first few minutes were spent in pure darkness. you had to figure out your objective. there was mass confusion, lots of noise and some people were scared. there were also some who found it fun. the darkness represented our world and how dark it is.
what are ways that this world is dark? is there some light in the world, too?
i intentionally had two "objectives." one was the right one and one was the wrong one. i found it interesting because everyone, including the person with the right objective did the wrong thing.
why did you listen to the wrong objective? just because someone says something confidently, does it mean they are right? do you ever do things to fit in with a group, even though you know its wrong?
jesus said that he is "the light of the world." what do you think of that?
jesus also tells his followers that "you are the light of the world." he passes his light onto us. what are ways you are shining his light? how do you reflect his light? what have you done today to shine the light of jesus into dark places, like at school, in your community or even your home?

Ways this world is dark: People don't do good things anymore for nothing, there is always an alterior motive, whether it's to make themselves look good or to get something out of it. it's like that saying winnings not everything it's the only thing. and that concept kind of bothers me, speaking as a competitive person i dont like how we cant do anything for ourselves anymore.
ways this world is light: unfortunately i couldnt come up with a good enough answer. like i mean there are always good things in the world and there are alot of good people so i guess those can be the light.
God, is the light.

no, i can say that pigs can fly and that worms have ears with all the confidence in the world but that doesnt mean anything, because they can't and a lie is a lie no matter how you say it.
I think jesus is referring to when they say that he is without sin. because if you think about it natural light is so pure and innocent, and you always look up into the light. so i think he's referring to himself as a role model for people to follow the way he lived his life.
i try to shine a light by giving everyone a fair opportunity and not judging people by they appearence. i'm also trying to help people when they need it.

community: k i'm not there yet
home: i bring my mom to church every week even when both of us dont want to go and i talk to my family about it which may sound kinda easy but unless you've met my family when we all get together that's easier said than done.
Alright, so I felt the need to comment and figure some stuff out. so yeah. :)
Ways this world is dark: Not only does cccatherine have a good point, I think that there is much much more to it. I mean, yes, we can't do anything for our selfs anymore but there has to be a reason for that.. yes? yes. I think part of it is all the things that we (as teenagers) are faced with every single day. And sure, you old folks may have gone through some "dark" things when you were in high school, but that was how many years ago? If it was bad then, try to imagine how bad it is now. Not only are we going though the same crazy peer-pressure our parents went though, but now its way harder. And now to get the things that are pressuring us like drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol are so easy. Not only is it school pressures that are making this world darker, its certain celebrities that are changing our world in a bad way. Girl as young as the age of EIGHT are becoming anorexic and hating them selfs. EIGHT! I mean, my sister is ten and I know that sometimes we have these talks and she tells me that she thinks she's FAT! And that hurts me. I mean, if you know my sister you know she is the opposite of fat! And it not just girls, its guys too. I don't know who all heard about the 13 year old boy in the states that was killed by another 13 year old just a few days after this boy came out of the closet. I mean, sure you can say "yeah, well thats what you get in the states" but no. I mean, it doesn't matter where he lives, he was still only 13. And I could go on and on about thats going wrong in the world but I wouldn't, because thats not the point. The point is that there is clearly something deeper than we all can imagine that is "dark" in the world, and we all need to just take time and really think about it.
Ways this world is light: Frankly, I am in the same boat as catherine on this. I can't think of that many good things that are happening in this world, and I think it's because we don't hear about many good things in the world. And I don't really know why that it. Its stupid really..
I listened to the wrong objective because
1) I never heard tory
2) It was dark, and my mind kinda shut off..
3) I couldn't hear anything except for Dave's loud voice (no offense Dave..)
I don't think that just because someone says something means its right. What Catherine said was simply right. A lie is a lie no matter how much you want to believe it, and no matter how good it sounds.
I'm not even going to sugar coat this. Yes. I have done things just to fit in even though I know they were wrong. I'm not going to mention what they are, but I have.
To be completely honest, I think he is saying exactly when he said. That he IS the light of the world. He IS what we should be looking up to. He IS what he said he is. Plain and simple.
Kay, well I am a horrible person, and I don't have an answer for the last question because I can't think of anything. And I'm not going to lie and say that "oh, I'm perfect and I've been doing this and this and this. yadda yadda yadda" cause that would be complete bs. MM, thats all I'm going to say about that right now. Maybe some other time I'll have an answer for it, but not right now.
